Unable to upload password protected file from powerapps to sharepoint

Hi all,

Is powerapps do not allow to upload password protected file to sharepoint? I am using SubmitForm() to directly save the attachment to SharePoint, however, I found that all the file types are able to save to SharePoint successful except password protected file. (please refer to the attachment). Can ask any solution to solve this?

hi @Dylan07 ,

Power Apps can certainly upload a password protected file as an item attachment - it's uploaded as binary, so the encryption will be uploaded as document content.  I also tested and can confirm a password protected file inside a zip file also works fine, as well as a password protected file inside a password protected zip is also fine.

My question would be, can you manually create an item and add the file you're looking at using as an attachment, using the SharePoint user interface?  In other words, go to the list on SharePoint, create an item, and attach the file that way.  

If the answer is "yes", there may be something else going on, but if the answer is "no", then you might find the settings on the site/list or library are causing the issue.

Off the top of my head, Information Rights Management settings on a list could impact document upload behaviour, but probably best to try upload the file using SharePoint, and if there's a problem then check with the site admin.

If it works fine through SharePoint, then we can try figure out some more troubleshooting to do from the Power Platform side...

Thanks for your prompt reply. 

FYI, I was able to manual upload the password protected attachment via Sharepoint, if I created an itemm by powerapps, the attachments was missing, and go to sharepoint, find the particular item and manual upload the attachment, go back to powerapps and refresh, the attachment appear in powerapps successful. Have no idea why it cant upload to sharepoint successful via powerapps.

Can you share more about the error you're getting in PowerApps (if any?)

What happens if you attach a file and try to save the form?

Thanks again for your prompt reply. 

I’m using attachment control to upload the files to SharePoint. Please refer to screenshot atatched, the zipfile - C0069793.zip (files inside are non-password protected) is able to upload to SharePoint via PowerApps successful, but CF trf-18June21.zip (files inside are password protected) fail to do so (attachment missing in PowerApp & SharePoint).

If I upload both of the zipfile to SharePoint manually, it’s success with no issue, and both of the attachment shown in PowerApps.

Using a combination of standard windows zip functionality and 7zip, and pdf files with passwords assigned in Acrobat Reader, I tested first saving and then reviewing/downloading the following attachment combos using a form;

• Unprotected zip, Unprotected files
• Unprotected zip, protected files
• Protected zip, unprotected files
• Protected zip, protected files

and I also doubled up on each to make sure the problem didn't materialise with more zips or more files inside the zips...I had no issues with any of them, which tells me there is something else going on here with your setup or upload process. 

I'd suggest you perhaps chat to your SPO admin to see if they can pick up any audit logs for the site collection when you upload, or perhaps someone who can help you review your browser traffic when you upload with Power Apps to see if you can spot any anomalies...

Unfortunately, being unable to reproduce the issue makes it difficult to troubleshoot and solve, so I'm not sure how else I can help you.
