Use form to create a new folder in Document Library

Hello there,

New to the powerapp world I'm really excited to tackle some of the repetitive task we have in my team.

We use a Document library and I defined the form through powerapps, I'm a bit lost on how to make the "check icon" to create a new folder in my library with a name based on a concatenation of fields.

I think I can handle the concatenate part but I am stuck with the "create a folder" I search a lot in the past days but often it is linked with a list...

I tried to use the button in powerautomate to "create a new folder" but I don't have the field available in folder path, and i can't seems to set a variable depending on the field content

Hi @BEJ ,

Do you want to create a folder in your SP Library through Power Apps canvas app?

If you want to create a folder in your SP Library, I afraid that Power Apps canvas app could not achieve your needs. There is no function supported in PowerApps canvas app to create a Folder in SP Library.

As an alternative solution, I agree with @Rebetcha 's thought almost. I think the combination of Power Apps and Power Automate flow could achieve your needs.

On your side, you could consider fire a flow from your canvas app, and pass the concatenated string value to your flow. Within your flow, you could add a "Create new folder" action of SharePoint connector to create a new folder based on the passed  concatenated string value.

The flow's configuration as below:

3.JPG

Within your canvas app, create a connection to your above flow, then bind it to a button. The configuration as below:

5.JPG

Set the OnSelect property of the button to following:

'FlowName'.Run(Concatenate(TextInput1.Text, TextInput2.Text, ...))

In your app, you could use the Concatenate function to concatenate multiple field values as a Folder Name string.

Of course, if you want to create your new folder under an existing folder in your SP Library as sub-folder, please configure your flow as below:

Hi @BEJ ,

It is not possible to create files or folders directly from Power Apps. You need to that by adding a Flow to your form. You need to add Ask in PowerApps as dynamic content to the Folder Path field.

Create Folder Flow.png

When you attach the Flow in your Form (for example to an Icon or button) the Run function will show 1 parameter that matches the Ask in Power Apps dynamic content you added in the Flow.

Basically, this property allows you to pass information from Power Apps to your Flow.

CreateFolderButton.png

When clicking the button (or icon) you will trigger the Flow to create the folder using whatever you pass from Power Apps as folder name.

Hi @Rebetcha

thank you for your answer, I tried to reproduce your process and I have an error : "invalid number of parameters received 1 expected 2".

here is my flow

The "createnewfold..." is the result when I click on "ask to powerapps"

Hi @BEJ ,

Based on the screenshot that you mentioned, I found that you have defined two parameters within the "Create new folder" action using the "Ask in PowerApps" dynamic content. Actually, you just need to define single one parameter within the Folder Path field of the "Create new folder" action.

On your side, please consider re-create a new flow based on above flow configuration I provided, and then go to the Folder Path field of the "Create new folder" action, then click "Ask in PowerApps" dynamic content there (once time), then save your flow.

Within your canvas app, remove the previous flow's connection, then re-create a new connection to above new flow, then try it again, check if the issue is solved.

If you do not want to add a new flow, please modify your 'FlowName'.Run() function as below:

uploadFileToSharepoint.Run(folderName.Text, folderName.Text)

Note: Just put same formula within the first argument and second argument.

hi @v-xida-msft,

The solution is now marked, I have several issues though,

1° now when I modify and existing occurence, it creates a new folder while the powerautomate trigger is only on create a new folder. I thought I teste it but I'm not sure anymore.

I think it is because I linked the "check mark" to the flow and I need to  have a "save" option which only modify the current occurence in the library.

So I need to have a "create screen" (where i call the flow) and a "modify screen" (where i only submit the modifications ?)

2° I tested last friday that informations enterred via the form where passed to the library (metadata) , and today Nothing is passed even if i call back previous version, where can I look for any errors ? (nothing in the appchecker)

3° I had "Delegation Warning" on my form although did not change a thing during the weekend but now its gone ...-

I am still not able to create my folders with metadata from fields.
I tried to recreate the whole app and flow following @v-xida-msft detailed steps and i end up with the same result

My flow

The app

The result

Could the error come from the delegation warning taht popped up on my form ?ç
