If you're just starting to work with offline mode, have a look at Shane's video on the topic first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwbqdA9j8Ek

Here are the really quick details:

  1. You can only save data in collections
  2. You use SaveData(myCollectionName, filename) to save it
  3. You use LoadData(myCollectionName, filename) to bring it back into the app
  4. Use Connection.Connected to determine if you are connected (or not) to the internet

Then, as you run into specific questions about how to implement it, check back here.

Hope this helps,

Bryan

Hi there!

Thanks for the video. I followed the steps but it doesn't work, maybe it's because my database is in sharepoint. From the moment I open the application without Internet, I get an error message and it does not show my sharepoint records.

The offline capabilities work with internal collections only. So, if you are trying to integrate with a Sharepoint list, you will need to build the functionality that loads the data into a collection and writes any new/updated collection records back to the list whenever the app user's device is connected again to the internet. Power Apps does not automatically sync data with the Sharepoint list from time offline.

Do you know how can i build the functionality?

I'm beginner 😕

My suggestion is: if you are really new to Power Apps, don't try to build offline capabilities first. Instead, get an app working that connects directly to your Sharepoint List and is effectively reading and writing data, probably using a Form control. Once you have that working well, add these two levels of complexity towards working offline:

  1. Move your data into internal collection(s) and work with it from there, with reading/writing back to the Sharepoint List as needed
  2. Once you've got 1. mastered, then consider adding in offline capabilities

As soon as you go offline, you will need to add additional error checking and exception handling into the app, so having a working base (and good knowledge) before you go down that path is important. Please start small and then build up 🙂

Hi @WarrenBelz

This is the new post about mode offline.

For the moment, the app was created with a sharepoint list and works fine, but i need dock it to mode offline, because sometimes the internet conexion is not avilable.

Can you helpme with guide me how can I move my data into internal collections and work with it  from there.

For the moment I just add two buttons

1.  SaveData(SReadings, "SaveItemsKeep")

2.LoadData(SReadings, "SaveItemsKeep", true)

Thanks for help

Regards.

@Anonymous ,

I don't have much to add to what @BCLS776 has provided to help you. If you post some proposed code, I am sure one of us can have a look at it.

Hi Guys

I follow this tutorial: https://matthewdevaney.com/power-apps-offline-mode-a-step-by-step-tutorial/ , and i get the error:

The requested operation is invalid. Server Response: Home Inspections failed: The $filter expression "[object Object]" is not valid. Creating query failed. clientRequestId: ebe53c6d-cf76-4078-86d5-e5cfe76ab7b0 serviceRequestId: ebe53c6d-cf76-4078-86d5-e5cfe76ab7b0

So, that not allow save the data.

And in the other hand, not works like the GIF of the tutorial. Because, I star the app, and show the gallery, I select one record, and edit, and then I click on submit, and appears the next screen, instead of the message Saving your data.

Hope can check the tutorial

Thank you so much!

@Anonymous, I took a 1min look through Matthew's tutorial and he shows some good stuff. I especially like that he starts relatively simple and builds up functionality from there. I have not checked his app in exquisite detail, but given his background, he knows what he is doing. I'll quote Matthew:

"As a developer, making Power Apps with an offline mode is one of the greatest challenges you will undertake"

Your error indicates some sort of problem in communication with a data source through a connector. That's all I can tell about your app. However, I am able to see that you didn't follow my earlier advice to learn a lot about working with collections before attempting to build an offline-capable app. I'm not sure how to help you in a situation such as this and I imagine it is frustrating for both of us. Maybe start here?
