index function cannot be called with empty table

Hi.

Whenever I play the app on my mobile phone or monitor, an error message appears. Can I fix this somehow and deactivate the code?

„The Index function cannot be called with an empty table.“

Run your app using monitor to find out what Table is empty when you try to index it.  When I've had this kind of error it was a timing issue. Trying to access a Table in the Canvas app before it had finished populating from the data source or code.  Monitor will help you find what table it is and at what point in the program the error is coming.  Then you need to take steps to make sure the table has data at that point.

Hello,

The answer is yes you can, here are a couple of ways (but requires you to make a code change). The reason this happens due to not handling the error, so in the Dev side, and the Run Side/Publish side you will see any popups for unhandled exceptions and or if people use a Notify.

Note: for all of these you can use a Trace statement to catch it as well, but thats another topic.

1. Go into the App section. Go to OnError Event. In there, this is where ALL unhandled exceptions (errors) will bubble up. If you put a catch there, and either

a) ignore it or (add true; or false; like in #2, all by itself)

b) do something with it, you won't see the popup anymore. such as

Trace(
    "Unhandled Error",
    TraceSeverity.Error,
    {
        Kind: FirstError.Kind,
        Message: FirstError.Message,
        Observed: FirstError.Observed,
        Screen: App.ActiveScreen.Name,
        Source: FirstError.Source,
        User: User().Email
    }
);

// Assuming you are using the base standard platform stuff it should support the Trace automatically out of the box

2. Wrap the code doing this in an

IfError(MyCode,
     //ErrorSection
     // in here you can just put literally this
    false; // and do nothing else.. if you dont care about catching it.
    ,
     //SuccessSection
true; // and nothing else
);

 Cheers

@FLMike

what do I write at MyCode?

where do I have to write the code at Screen1?

Hello,

It depends on which option you choose.

If you select option 1 put it where it says, in the App.OnError. Just click App on the top left (as in picture), in the drop down select OnError

FLMike_0-1694355822895.png

If you select option 2, I have a guess that the code being executed is in the App.OnStart (your code, or whomever wrote it), but I cannot be sure without seeing it.

Let me ask this, does the app run just fine, once you make the error go away? If so and you don't want to change your code anywhere else, put it in the App.OnError. But only completely ignore the error if it means nothing too you.

Cheers

it has no meaning but i don't see the appearance of the code, it is supposed to be hidden.

You don't see an appearance of code where? If you choose option 1, you don't care where the code is in the entire app, that is creating the unhandled exception, because you are handling it with the code I gave you.

If you are saying you dont have access to the code, then no you cannot get rid of it. Not following. Please provide more details and images.

can you give me detailed instructions for option 1?

can you give me detailed instructions for option 1?

Hello,

Quick request, since you have the app, can you do a search for the words Notify.

Steps to search

1. Click on the word App (top left)

2. Press CTRL + H

it will look like this after you click that

FLMike_0-1694357226043.png

3. Click the Find tab (not replace, which is defaulted to selected)

4. in the find box type Notify and it will find anywhere, that is doing a Notify (assuming it's not a component).

FLMike_1-1694357287323.png

I just want to see where there are any pre-existing notifies that might be catching the error already and posting that message, because if there is, then we need to modify that spot, not just add new code.

But for option 1.

1. Open app in edit mode

2. Click App in the top left

FLMike_2-1694357515552.png

3. in the drop down above it, it may say StartScreen or OnStart, or whatever was selected before, but change that to OnError

4. paste the code I gave you already there, either

a) just put true

b) paste the code so that it will do a trace (which is a better option) and then you can see it in Monitor as well

Cheers
