items not displaying on form when the app is being tested

Hi,

I have created a form that submits an incident, however whenever I run the app to test it, it comes up with "No item to display" I am confused as to why this is as it is visible when editing the app but not when testing.

Below is the objects that are within the "Adding incidents" form that I have made:

Each object has properties, and each form has an Item property - what is in the formula bar for the Item property of the form that's returning no data?

In the formula bar for each of the items it has the name of the data source in there, like Table1

Hi Melissa, 

                  Your Form needs to have the DataSource set so that you can see the various fields in the form, but it then also needs to have the Item property set so that it displays the item.

In the image below, you can see that

1. The form has been selected 

2. The 'Item' property is being examined 

3. The item property is blank  <-- this is the problem

4. Even though the item property is blank, the form displays when I am in edit mode

But when you run this app, you'll get

5. A "no Item to display" message, because there is no item set

The solution is to set an item on your form. Frequently this is done using a global variable and this is OK, but a cleaner solution is to pass the item that you want to display in as a parameter when you call the Navigate function.

The item property within the form isn't blank they all have values in them.

OK so this raises the question if the data that you have in Table4 matches the data that the Form is looking for. Can you post a view of what is in Table4?

Ok what you have in your Item field (Table4) is a Table, but what you need is a Record.

Your DataSource field should be the list of all the items (a table), and the Item field should be a single item (a record).

Look into what you have be doing the following (shown with my examples as I don't have access to your setup):

1. Select on your DataSource & select the variable name that appears in your DataSource (in my case DocLib_InspectionReports). You have to select the text of the variable name for the debug inspector to work.

2 At this point you will have the debug inspector show up with the name of the variable 

3. In the Data Type you can see that this datatype is a Table, and in the area below you will see the values that are stored in this table

Now do the same for Item

4. Select the Item

5. Highlight the name of the item (in your case Table)

6. Look at the details of the item in the inspector window. This data type needs to be a record, not a table, and the values within the record should match the type of records that the DataSource is made up of.

In your case I think you are using a Table where you should be using a record.

What you can do, is look at what you have your DataSource set to (let's call this TableX), and set your Item to be First(TableX). This will set the Item to a Record that matches your Datasource.
