New Power FX formula bar

Hey guys.
I've been testing the new formula bar and it looks great.
However, I noticed that when we define formulas in the Formulas property, the app automatically removes them when selecting a screen or selecting another App property.
Following information:

- version:

Roverandom_0-1678992253784.png

Steps to recreate:
1 - Enable Named Formulas;

2 - Enable new Power FX formula bar
3 - Add formula in Formula property
3 - Select screen or other property

Hi! I hope I was helpfull. Please always mark the answer that helped you, so others who need it will find it faster.

Hi community, just want to report that my IntelliSense hasn't been working properly -- errors aren't always flagged, and the auto-suggestion isn't displaying everything (e.g. a collection that doesn't appear after typing 'col'). I'm using the "old" PowerFX formula bar.  I'm excited to move to the new formula bar but still lack drag and drop functionality. (My authoring version is 3.23123.15.)
No action needed, just wanted to report the issue.

@ngohw That is actually by design. Unlike old formula bar, we force some buffer towards the bottom edge of the screen and you cannot resize formula bar beyond that. looks like in your image, you hit that upper bound and you can no longer drag it further down. You can however drag it back up tho to resize formula to a lesser height. The reason why you are not seeing a drag line is due to that formula result widget which is showing you the result of your formula. That thing is pushing down the drag line beyond viewport. You do not need to collapse the formula bar using that icon on the right side. You can just have that formula result widget disappear by focusing out of formula bar and that would bring back drag line back into your viewport and you would be able to drag back up to a smaller height.

However i agree that this is a weird edge case and i will file a bug on our end to give a smoother experience towards the bottom of the screen. Till then, i would recommend you drag it just few pixels before the upper bound so you do not experience this. The upper bound towards the bottom edge is your viewport height - 125px .

Hello there,

On editor version 3.23123.15 so if these things are handled in a version we are not on yet please disregard.

Just wanted to echo the issue that tabbing within the Power Fx editor does not work like it used to.

Hitting Tab not longer indents and instead highlights the next clickable area outside the formula bar (notice Format Text is outlined)

leonsig93_0-1705600114388.png

Or simply moves to the first suggestion made by the editor (notice first suggestion is now hovered as selected rather than the old approach of just populating it)

One wish-list improvement I'd like to suggest is the ability to collapse blocks of code within the newer Formulas property. Since we can add a number of different things in there now, it would be really helpful if we could collapse certain blocks while working on others. Think how Visual Studio Code's editor works allowing you to collapse or expand an entire block.

Other than that, the new Power Fx bar has been great overall!

@leonsig93  Thank you for the feedback. By any chance, are you using modern control in your app that had this tab issue? The tab issue you mentioned is actually a bug and we are in the process of fixing it and would soon roll out the fix. A number of people are facing this in newer studio versions due to a bug and we would soon fix it. When that bug is fixed, tab would work the same way you are expecting it to work.

On your other suggestion, I will bring this up with the right team. If you have any other feedback let me know.

@robertjl You should still be able to use old formula bar without these issues. This is definitely a problem. Could you share your session id in which you were using old formula bar and these features didn't work? As for the new formula bar, we have rolled out new drag and resize functionality and you should soon get it depending on your region.

Yes I am referring to the attachments control created for forms (but can also be copied outside of forms).
the screenshot above is taken from the advanced properties pane when selecting an attachments control with the old formula bar active - you can see under 'Items' there are two properties called 'Name' and 'Value' which are not set using the formula bar (they are fixed dropdowns only accessible in the advanced properties pane). they are critical for mapping the file name and file content to the attachments control correctly, without them the control doesn't work.

below screenshot shows the pane with the new formula bar activate, nothing under 'Items' (or anywhere else, as I realise the possibility the new formula bar could move these dropdowns somewhere else)

This issue also existed in the old formula bar but it occurs in new formula bar too, the first line after a comment inside a function with multiple parameters such as If() will always incorrect indent itself after clicking 'Format text':

Ideally it should match the same indent as the comment i.e.

Collapsing blocks of code as leonsig93 suggested would be a gamechanger!

Hey, @akstrauss ! The Formula Bar doesn't support Name/Value appearing for tables, when tables are inserted into Items for Attachment Controls. The Attachment control doesn't support tables at all. The previous implementation of Formula Bar allowed for it, even though it didn't formally support it. However, the new implementation of formula bar does not allow for it and does not support it. Here's the link for it in the documentation:

🙂 Thanks!

Any update on the tab indent/key press going back to what it should? This unfortunately is also present in the standard formula bar not just the Power Fx version.

Seems like its an editor bug essentially.

In Authoring version 3.24012.8

We've identified and fixed the issue, and that fix should be rolling out over the next few weeks.

A workaround for the time being would be to remove any "Header" or "Tab list" modern controls you have in your Canvas. If this is still occurring for you after doing that, please let me know.
