Write to excel stored in sharepoint

Hello there

i am fairlynew to Powerapps. I am trying to created an app which is collecting and writing Data to an excel Table.

The excelsheet is stored in a sharepoint folder. I was succesfull in integrating Data from said excelsheet but i can't write data to it. So far i have seen some tutorials but there the allways use Onedrive as datasource. Is it at all possible to write to an excelfile which is stored in a sharepoint folder?

I've never tried writing direclty to an Excel file in a SharePoint directly, but it seems like it would be possible to store all the data in an Excel file and then copy it to the SharePoint using Flow. Do you want to patch data into your Excel table which stored within your SP library?

If you want to patch data into your Excel table which stored within your SP library, I afraid that there is no way to achieve your needs in PowerApps currently.

Currently, within PowerApps, we could only get the File name, created time, modified time, creator, etc properties (file itself properties) of a file stored within a SP library, we could not retrieve file content of a file stored in a SP library.

Patching data into Excel table which stored within SP library is not supported within PowerApps. If you would like this feature to be added in PowerApps, please submit an idea to PowerApps Ideas Forum:

As an alternative solution, please store your Excel table within a OneDrive for Business folder (OneDrive folder, Dropbox, etc), then patch data into the Excel table from your app.

SharePoint and SharePoint Microsoft Environment are the same thing.  If you wish to write to an excel table, your options, as mentioned above, are to store the document in OneDrive for Business, or use Power Automate Flows to potentially update the table within the excel document.

My real question is why are you writing to an excel table in an excel workbook, when you can do the same thing with SharePoint lists.  Writing directly to SharePoint lists is native to Power Apps.  Creating the SharePoint list based on the table is easy also.  Just select the table, click on the "Data" tab in the ribbon, and click export to SharePoint List.  Provide the site, give the list a name, and your can also create a connection b/t that list and the table in excel.  Once the list is create in SharePoint, that list is connected, so when you click "Refresh Data" the table is populate with the information in the SharePoint list.

Of course we can use SharePoint lists, but the aim is to take over existing Excel Files instead of rebuilding always new files

Sorry that is not yet possible in sharepoint cloud, it would have been so easier

Perhaps a day it will be understood by Microsoft because beginners would better understand

This would be a really useful feature because the list method means we have to 'boil the ocean' with hundreds of excel solutions in my organisation alone that could easily be improved needing to be re-written because of this missing connector.

Hello,

You can use the "Update a row" action using Excel Online (Business) connector, as long as the row you are wanting to update is in a defined Table in the excel workbook, and there is a Primary Key in the table for each row.  This is the same method you would use to update an item in a SharePoint list.
