being able to search in a combobox from sharepoint without delegation issue

Hi all,

I am currently building my first application based on a maintable. In this table people will choose a country and then city based on country from a dropdown OR a combobox in which they are supposed to be able to search. The reason for this is the list is very long and having to scroll is not an option.

However, having set up a combobox for the purpose, I realise it tells me I have a delegation issue. The problem is the list might in fact reach the 2000 since the cities might exceed the number.

Either way having to scroll to find a given city is not an option. How do I get around this issue?

OK - so there are no items in the box - you simply want to filter a gallery based on an input from the user?

In the editform (for a new or existing item) I want to be able to search, lookup or whatever you want to call it, from a dropdown/combobox/whatever, so that I can filter down according to the first few letters. This is so that the user does not have to scroll throw hundreds of items to find it.

I am going to take a guess that you want a Gallery list of all cities that match an input from a user. They then select the one they want to edit it.

If this is the case, you can use a simple text input (I will call it TxtSearch, the list CityList and the field City)

So I would have the Gallery Items property

Filter(CityList, StartsWith(City,TextSearch.Text))

If you have the Default of TxtSearch as "", the gallery would initially show all records and then filter down as the user typed.

This is the user journey:

1. they enter the application.

2. they press on "new proposal"

3. now they have to insert a wide variety of information.

   a) customer name (from a list of customers - again this should be searchable as our company have many hundreds maybe 1000s of customers that is coming from an ERP system. I don't know whether this changes if it does not come from a SharePoint List - I am just testing the application capabilities with a sharepoint list I created)

  b) country that this item should be send to (same as above, combobox with many items (countries) to choose from, if I am search for USA I dont want to scroll down to U countries before I can click it, I want to write US and choose the country)

  c) Now that we know the country, I want the user to choose the city, which is again a dropdown/combobox consisting of many many cities (coming from an ERP system), if they have to scroll down to cities starting with "S" to find Seattle they are going to hang me. Hence I need to search from the combobox. Yet again my issue is that this requires delegation, which sharepoint  does not support.

I hope I am not being confusing. This is all happening in a editform and has nothing to do with the gallery.

The combo box for the cities would still have a formula such as Filter(Cities,Country=CountryDropdown.Selected.Country) or similar.

If you turn off the "Allow Searching" switch, does the delegation warning go away?

Yes exactly, that was what I was trying to show in post #12. It is simply ONLY due to the "Allow Search"

Strange, since the last post, I created a combo box and pointed it at a field in a SharePoint list with over 5,000 items, left search on  and it worked fine.

I have never seen this happen (which is why I was confused), however I do have a suggestion of sorts.

For the second combo box, do a collection - something like:-

ClearCollect(
    colCities,
    Filter(
        Cities,
        StartsWith(
            Country,
            CountryComboBox.Selected.Country
        )
    )
)

 As long as the result of this is under 2000 cities, you can use any formula you like without delegation issues.
